The Purest Cobalt in the jewelry industry

"BioBlu™27 Cobalt is a high purity, high performance material that
exhibits a unique combination of stength and scratch resistance
."

- Anthony Guitterez (Carpenter Technologies)

BioBlu™27 Cobalt

BioBlu™27 is an alloy of 65 percent cobalt, 29 percent chromium, and 6 percent molybdenum. It is a non-magnetic cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy exhibiting high strength, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance.

The name does indeed come from the metallurgists at Carpenter Technology. ‘Bio' refers to the biocompatibility of the material, which can be used in medical applications such as prosthetics, and ‘Blu' refers to the cobalt in the material. The number 27 is the number on the atomic table for cobalt.

Carpenter Technology's BioBluTM 27 alloy is a high-purity, cobalt-based alloy which offers the following advantages over other leading precious and contemporary metals:

  • Superior strength
  • Excellent corrosion resistance
  • 100% solid and Naturally white
  • High Purity / High Performance
  • Improved resistance to cracking, chipping and scratching
  • Excellent polishability - bright white, mirror-like shine
  • Extremely durable (solid integrity)
  • Unique, one-of-a-kind feel

Cobalt Jewelry Information

Q: What is BioBlu™ 27?

A: BioBlu™ 27 is an alloy developed by Carpenter Technologies. Melting raw natural elements into a homogeneous liquid state, which is then cooled into a 100% solid form. It has been used in various other applications due to its superior strength and durability, but is being introduced for the very first time in the use of cobalt jewelry.

Q. Will SK Cobalt scratch?

A: SK Cobalt is scratch resistant, not scratch proof. Your SK Cobalt band will be resistant to scratches, but if it does scratch, those marks may be easily buffed out by any jeweler. Your SK Cobalt band should be cared for just as you would a precious metal like platinum or gold, as they too are scratch resistant and not scratch proof and should be cleaned and polished professionally from time to time.

Q: Is it safe? I have seen some conflicting cobalt wedding jewelry information on the Internet.

A: Cobalt is an element that exists naturally throughout the world. BioBlu™ 27 is a patented alloy that combines cobalt with other natural elements to produce a hypoallergenic, entirely safe, and biocompatible medical grade metal that is perfect for creating wedding bands.

Q: Is SK Cobalt hypoallergenic?

A: Yes. SK Cobalt is created using the highest purity of alloys. In fact, SK Cobalt is biocompatible, which means it lives in harmony inside the human body and often used for medical devices such as joint replacements. It is also hypoallergenic, which means you shouldn't experience any skin irritations when wearing SK Cobalt.

Q: If the cobalt wedding band is so hard and scratch resistant, can it be cut and removed?

A: Yes, there are tools that can successfully cut and safely remove SK Cobalt wedding bands.

Q: How do you remove a BioBlu 27 or cobalt wedding band?

A: You can remove a Cobalt Wedding Ring with a diamond-plated cutting disk. Click Here to learn more and watch an instructional video on the safe removal process for Cobalt Wedding Rings.
