Which Diamond shape is the most sought after?

Round diamonds are the most expensive, but the most brilliant of all the shapes and the most sought after. Followed by oval, marquise, and Asscher. Step cuts like emerald and Asscher, are not known for brilliance though they shine in a different way, with an array of prisms.

What is the most affordable diamond shape?

The prices show that the emerald cuts are the least expensive quality for quality. However, the emerald cut is usually sought after in higher quality grades because of its window-like appearance. The emerald, oval, Asscher, princess and cushion cut diamonds will be less expensive because of the weight retention in cutting these shapes, but the loss of sparkle in comparison to the round diamond creates less demand for them.

How much should you spend on an Engagement Ring?

How much should you spend on an engagement ring?

Are you thinking of popping the big question soon? One of the first thoughts in your head is probably:

"How much should I spend on the ring?"

This is often more emotional than a rational decision. Only spend as much as you can afford experts advise.  The old rule of thumb was to spend 2 months salary on the engagement ring which is outdated.

In 2018 the average Engagement Ring purchase price in the United States is $6351.

South Dakota is $4832

North Dakota is $5436

Minnesota is $5630

Iowa is $8150

Wisconsin is $8766 (WOW!)

Getting Engaged and The Process

We are seeing a lot of couples talking about the process and design together.

The expectations are different for every couple, some are getting engaged in college, while others are waiting until after college so they can afford a larger/designer ring.

Some clients will never upgrade their ring and some want to change it every few years.

We have clients that purchase the engagement ring, diamond, and wedding bands together. For them, it is a "together purchase" and makes no sense for them, that one person would pay more than the other for their wedding rings.

Real people are being creative and making this work for the budget they have.  Arthur's Jewelers works with every budget from a couple hundred dollars to thousands.
